Fintech Software Development: Engineers Who Already Know Regulated Finance

Return to the list

Reading time: 9 minutes

Your fintech roadmap doesn't wait for engineers to learn what a chargeback is, how KYC checks fail or why an auditor will ask about your third-party risk. Every week a new hire spends learning finance is a week your product stands still, and a regulated product can't afford the mistakes of someone learning on the job.

ITDS provides fintech software development teams of senior engineers who already know regulated finance. We have worked in payments, cards, KYC, wealth, retail banking and asset finance, for banks and fintechs in Europe and the US. This page shows where we deliver, how we handle security and regulation, who we have done it for and how an engagement starts. For our wider approach, see nearshore software development from Poland and Portugal.

FAQ

Fintech software development across the domains that matter

Finance is not one domain. A payments engineer and an asset finance consultant solve very different problems. We match engineers to the part of finance your product lives in.

DomainTypical work
PaymentsPayment flows, transfers, reconciliation, payment provider integrations
CardsCard issuing and processing, authorizations, disputes and chargebacks
KYC and AMLCustomer onboarding, identity checks, transaction monitoring
Retail bankingCore banking integrations, accounts, customer channels, daily operations
Wealth and tradingInvestment platforms, market data, trading tools
Asset finance and leasingLeasing and lending platforms, contract lifecycle, specialist vendor software

Engineers who already know a domain ask better questions in the first week. They spot the edge case in a payment flow before it reaches production, and they understand why a compliance requirement exists instead of just implementing it.

Regulatory experience: PSD2, GDPR and DORA readiness

Our engineers have worked inside banks and fintechs that operate under European financial regulation. That means they are used to the habits regulated delivery demands: documented changes, controlled access, audit trails and security reviews.

  • PSD2. Payment services, open banking interfaces and strong customer authentication are familiar ground for our payments engineers.
  • GDPR. Our engineers are employed and work inside the EU, so personal data can stay under the same rules as your own team.
  • DORA. The EU's Digital Operational Resilience Act sets requirements for how financial entities manage ICT third-party risk. Our engineers work in a way that fits a DORA program: documented access, controlled changes and continuity of staffing.

Compliance stays your responsibility and your regulator's call. We don't provide legal or compliance advice. What we provide is engineers who understand why the rules exist and work in a way that makes your audits easier.

Security posture and EU data residency

Every engagement starts with how your data will be handled, not after the first sprint. Our engineers work inside the EU, on your infrastructure and under your access policies. We sign data processing agreements, follow your security onboarding and support your vendor risk reviews.

Security is also something we staff for. For HSBC, ITDS has provided around 50 cybersecurity engineers, one of the clearest signs of the trust large banks place in our vetting.

We don't learn finance on your project. We arrive knowing it.

Fintech software development client stories

CreditPlus: helping a German bank run every day

CreditPlus, a German bank, is building a retail banking platform from scratch, covering payments, KYC, cards and transfers. ITDS provides the nearshore team that will run it around the clock once it is live, so customers can bank every day without interruption.

Transient AI: one engineer, one Wall Street platform

Transient AI, a seed-stage startup founded by former traders, needed one exceptional engineer. The senior engineer we placed from Warsaw built their platform. The team has since grown to five.

Treezor: the Golang engineer France said didn't exist

Treezor needed a senior Golang engineer who spoke French, at a sustainable rate. Recruiters in France said the profile didn't exist. We searched beyond Poland and Portugal, and three weeks later the engineer started, working from Sarajevo.

SS Payment: they asked for him back

SS Payment needed French-speaking payments engineers. We found them in Lisbon. During a difficult period, the company released one engineer, then called to ask for him back. That is the kind of retention proof no marketing copy can fake.

Alpha Systems: eight years of asset finance delivery

For Alpha Systems, a specialist asset finance software vendor, ITDS consultants have delivered for eight years. In a niche where expertise takes years to build, continuity is the service.

Why nearshore fintech software development works from Poland and Portugal

Poland has one of Europe's deepest pools of engineers with banking experience. Many of the world's largest banks run technology centers in Warsaw and Kraków, so senior engineers who have worked on payments, risk and core banking are easier to find there than almost anywhere else in Europe.

Portugal adds what Poland can't always offer. Lisbon shares London's time zone, and many Portuguese engineers also work in French, which matters for fintechs in France, Belgium and Luxembourg. When a role needs both finance experience and French, Lisbon is often where we find it.

Both countries are in the EU, so your engineers work under the same data protection rules as your own team. For US fintechs, Lisbon and Warsaw share a full morning with the East Coast, which is enough for daily stand-ups, reviews and incident handovers.

Most importantly, you get one partner across both hubs. One contract, one account manager and one vetting standard, whether your next engineer sits in Warsaw or Lisbon.

Stacks: Java, Golang, Python and cloud

Most financial systems run on a small set of proven technologies. Our engineers cover the ones banks and fintechs rely on:

  • Java and Kotlin for core banking, payments and backend services.
  • Golang for high-throughput payment and card processing services.
  • Python for data, risk models, fraud detection and AI.
  • .NET for enterprise banking applications.
  • Cloud and DevOps on AWS, Azure and Google Cloud, with Kubernetes and infrastructure as code.
  • Cybersecurity engineers for application, cloud and infrastructure security.

How a fintech engagement starts

  1. A short call with our fintech lead. We discuss the domain, the stack, the regulation you operate under and the role you need.
  2. Security and data first. We agree the data processing terms, access model and onboarding requirements before anyone starts.
  3. A senior shortlist. Candidates who know your domain, vetted for technical depth and language. Roughly one in five passes.
  4. Your interviews, your decision. You meet the engineers and choose.
  5. Onboarding in about 20 days on average. The engineer joins your team, your tools and your rituals. We stay involved for continuity and replacement cover.

You can start with one engineer and grow into a dedicated team, or bring in a team from the start. Either way, you keep control of the product.
